Jolly Phonics

What is?

It's a complete method of reading and writing for childrem from 3-6 years. This method use "synthetic phonics". Who learn to read and write using the letter sounds way.

How does it work?

They are taught the 42 main sounds that we can distinguish in the English language and not just in the alphabet. The sounds are divided into seven groups. When a sound is formed by two letters is called digraph, for example ee and or.

Every sound is accompanied by a gesture that helps children remember the letter it represents.

 

Learning phases:

1. Learning the sounds: children learn the 42 sounds or the main phonemes.

2. Learning to write the letters: learn to form the letter and the proper directionality.

3. Union of the letters: learn to use the different sounds of the letters to form words and read them correctly.

4. Identifying of sounds in words: listening and discriminating the sounds in each word.

5. Tricky words: there are problematic words because have an irregular pronunciation and children learn them in this final phase.
